New Domestic Violence Unit at Wake County Courthouse

November 21, 2014 | Domestic Violence

The new domestic violence unit puts resources such as a law enforcement officer, domestic violence counselor, and staff in one place and should speed up the process for those seeking a domestic violence protective order. All the steps to obtain a DVPO can be completed in the new unit, which is also more secure.

The domestic violence unit comes at the right time as a new study by researchers at UNC Charlotte estimates that domestic violence costs the state of NC $307 million a year, not counting the emotional toll on victims and their families. The research factored in health care, police, court, jail, worker productivity, loss of life and more, but does not include social services, costs related to children, or shelters which would push the estimate even higher!
